One of the "must see" sites included in our itinerary was Namiseom Island or Nami Island for short. According to the official South Korea Tourism website, Nami Island is 63 km. from Seoul. This tiny crescent shaped island is known for its awesome trees lined up along the road. It was made more popular by the filming of the television series "Wanderer in the Winter" and "Winter Sonata". To reach Nami Island, you have to take the train or bus and ferry. It is open all year round but it is during the months of March to October that is most recommended to visit the place.
After getting off the ferry, there is an immigration counter. You see, Nami Island was declared an independent country to help boost its tourism. It is formally called Naminara Republic. You will even be issued a passport! Cool huh?
